Tchouameni Contract Renewal Agreed as Man United Move On
The Tchouameni contract saga appears to be over. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, as relayed by Bernabéu Digital, Real Madrid have agreed a renewal with Aurelien Tchouameni — and Manchester United, the club that pushed hardest to sign him this summer, have given up the chase.
It is a striking turnaround. Earlier in the window, the same outlet reported that the Frenchman was among the players José Mourinho was most willing to lose, with Los Blancos exploring a sale to fund another signing. United were reportedly prepared to put serious money on the table, but Tchouameni refused to consider leaving the Bernabéu — and Real Madrid responded by putting a new deal in front of him instead.
Tchouameni contract not yet official
One caveat remains: the renewal has not been announced, and Bernabéu Digital notes a late twist cannot be completely ruled out, though confirmation is expected soon. The length and terms of the new deal have not been reported. The news also lands just days after a knock made the midfielder a pre-season doubt, ruling him out of Wednesday’s friendly against Deportivo La Coruña.
The bigger picture is what it says about Mourinho’s plans. Per reports in Marca and AS, the manager intends to build his midfield around a double pivot of Tchouameni and Federico Valverde, with the Uruguayan having also turned away every approach this summer. After a first trophyless season since 2020–21, Real Madrid wanted stability in the engine room — and it now looks secured.
