Rayan Zinebi Joins Real Madrid Castilla as Manuel Ángel Heads to Almería

While the first team waits on Raúl Asencio and an exit that refuses to happen, the floor below has been busy. In the space of a single Thursday, Real Madrid agreed to send their Castilla captain to the Segunda División for six million euros and brought in a 19-year-old Moroccan striker to replace some of what they had just sold. Rayan Zinebi is the name to learn.

Managing Madrid report that Real Madrid have agreed a season-long loan for Zinebi from Granada. The forward has featured in both of Granada’s second-division fixtures so far this season, but has spent most of his football with the club’s reserve and youth sides. In Madrid he will play in the Spanish third tier for Castilla, adding depth to Julián López’s attacking options.

What Real Madrid have signed in Rayan Zinebi

The terms matter as much as the player. There is reportedly an option to purchase the striker if he competes well over the course of the season, per Managing Madrid, set somewhere in the region of €2 million — the kind of figure Real Madrid barely notice and the kind of structure that has become the club’s default with young attackers. Take a look for a year, keep him if he convinces.

A Moroccan youth international, Rayan Zinebi arrives with something close to an immediate opening. Managing Madrid note the rumour that his compatriot Rachad Fettal may be on the way out of Castilla, which — if it happens — would leave a good deal expected of Zinebi before he has had any time at all to settle. That is the standard entry fee at this club, even two divisions down.

Manuel Ángel out: six million, and half his rights kept

The traffic in the other direction is the bigger deal in cash terms. Castilla captain Manuel Ángel is set to join Almería, reports from Spain confirmed on Thursday, with Diario AS carrying the terms as relayed by Bernabéu Digital: six million euros to the second-division club, with Real Madrid retaining 50 per cent of the player’s future rights.

The context is a contract running out. Managing Madrid point out that Manuel Ángel’s deal at Real Madrid expires in just under a year, which made a departure close to inevitable for a midfielder who turned 22 earlier this year — older than the usual age at which Castilla players go looking for greener grass. He tried to force his way into the first-team squad and did not manage it, so the second option was to start his senior career elsewhere.

At Almería he should get the minutes, and he will tentatively line up alongside another Real Madrid graduate in Sergio Arribas — the sell-on structure we looked at in the Antonio Blanco and Arribas clauses. Managing Madrid add a caveat worth keeping: it is not yet confirmed the player will stay at Almería all season, with interest from Portugal looming.

La Fabrica as a business, not a sentiment

None of this is happening in isolation. Bernabéu Digital frame the Manuel Ángel sale as another instalment in one of the highest-earning summers in the club’s history, with deals for David Jiménez and Daniel Yáñez also pending and interest from several clubs in both — a pattern we tracked in the academy exits earlier this month.

It is a model with a clear shape: sell the graduates who will not make Mourinho’s XI, keep half of what they might become, and reinvest the cash at the top of the squad. The 50 per cent retained on Manuel Ángel means Real Madrid have not really said goodbye — they have taken an option on his future while somebody else pays his wages and gives him a league.

Which brings it back to Rayan Zinebi. One academy captain leaves for six million, one borrowed 19-year-old arrives with a two-million option attached, and Castilla starts the season with a different-looking attack. Madridistas have learned to watch this level closely: the last few years suggest at least one of these names will be a first-team problem to solve before long.
