Real Madrid Midfield Is Set: No New Signing After Rodri Snub

Real Madrid have drawn a line under their summer in the engine room: there will be no new central midfielder before the window shuts on 31 August, with the current Madrid midfield trusted to carry José Mourinho’s side through the season. The decision comes after Rodri snubbed Los Blancos in favour of a move to Barcelona.

According to COPE, as Madrid Universal reported, the club believes the squad already holds enough quality and depth and has no intention of chasing another defensive midfielder. Having reinforced heavily this summer, the directors do not feel a further investment in the position is necessary.

Why the Madrid Midfield Stays As It Is

Spanish outlet Bernabéu Digital report that the squad is now considered “closed at 95%”, with only an astronomical, out-of-the-blue offer for a marquee name likely to trigger late business. Bernardo Silva, one of the club’s summer transfer signings, is expected to take on a deeper role under Mourinho to help cover the middle of the park.

The message from within the club, as relayed by Madrid Universal, has stayed consistent: Real Madrid will not sign players who do not genuinely want to play for the club.

For Mourinho, that means finding answers from within — leaning on Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler and new arrival Bernardo Silva rather than signing a late replacement for the one who got away.
