Carlos Espi Savours First Real Madrid Goal: ‘It’s Magical’

Carlos Espi scored his first goal for Real Madrid on Saturday, netting in the 2-1 pre-season victory over Ferencvaros in Budapest and describing the moment as “magical” afterwards. The summer signing led the line with Kylian Mbappé still building his conditioning, and took his chance in front of goal.

The young forward did more than find the net under José Mourinho, also dropping in as a target man and linking play effectively from the striker position. It was an all-round display that hinted at his potential, and it followed a night when Real Madrid’s youngsters shone against Ferencvaros.

“It’s magical. It’s amazing to score with this jersey and help the team, I’m very happy,” Espi told Real Madrid TV, as carried by Managing Madrid.

“I feel better and more at ease. My teammates helped me a lot with the goal: Arda, Fede… the whole team… I’m very happy. It’s still early, but we are playing as a team and doing what the coach says. We’re moving forward,” he added.

With Mbappé still working towards full sharpness, Carlos Espi should get further chances to prove his worth as pre-season continues – and a first goal in white is the perfect way to build that confidence.
